The First Trust Clean Edge Green Energy ETF (NASDAQ: QCLN) is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) that contains only US companies that produce or distribute clean energy. It is listed in the United States on the NASDAQ stock exchange and managed by First Trust Advisors L.P.

The Fund is an equity index that tracks the performance of clean energy companies that are publicly traded in the US and is based on the NASDAQ Clean Edge U.S. Liquid Series Index (Symbol: CELS).

Mission

The fund invests in companies engaged in the manufacturing, development, distribution, and installation of emerging clean-energy technologies such as solar photovoltaics, biofuels, and advanced batteries, as defined by Clean Edge. The four major sub-sectors the index covers are renewable fuels and electricity generation, energy storage & conversion, energy intelligence, and advanced energy-related materials.

Portfolio

There are a total of 42 stocks in the ETF that come from a wide range of niche sectors, related to green energy. Tesla Motors is its largest holding, with a weighting of 12.26%. The other four largest stocks include LED lighting company Cree Inc., circuit maker Linear Technology, solar company First Solar and utility ITC Holdings.

As of March 18, 2014 the fund had assets worth $188,819,766.
